Food Service Division cook

The Food Service Division consist of approximately Fifty-Six (56) union members, all being members of TWU Local 264.  The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between ARAMARK Corporation (the employer, a subcontractor for Barnard College) and TWU Local 264 (the union) governs this Division.

The members of this division have three separate unit locations that they are assigned to provided service to the college community.  The Unit Locations are:

  1. Hewitt Kitchen and Dining Location.  This is for services to mainly Students and their guests.
  2. McIntosh Cafeteria Location.  This is for service to Administrators, Faculty, Staff, Student and Visitors.
  3. Java City-café Location.  This is a small but dynamic café that opens very early and closes late and delivers service to Administrators, Faculty, Staff, Students and Visitors.

The members of this division are divided into six (6) Categories due to their skills and area of responsibilities.  The Categories as defined by the CBA are:

  1. First-Cook,
  2. Second Cook
  3. Third Cook
  4. Catering Workers
  5. Utility Workers
  6. Service Workers

These union members are charged with the responsibility of providing services for the main dining areas, cafeteria and most of the College catering events.  They prepare, serve and sell meals to the Barnard community and are also responsible for the sanitation of the cafeteria, kitchens and dining areas.

A Vice President who is a member of the union’s Local Executive Board represents this division.  The division also has three (3) Union Representatives (Shop Stewards) who are charged with representing the members as well as upholding the CBA.  Most members of the division are assigned to various shifts between the hours of 6:00 AM to 12:00 MN.

The Division is a Department within the College named Dinning Services.  It is led by a Senior Director who is directly responsible for this division.  Two Location Directors and a catering Director as well as three managers support him.  There are also three union members who are under a program as supervisory workers who assist in the full running of the locations.

 

Facilities Housekeeping Division sweeper

The Facilities Housekeeping Division consist of approximately fifty-four (54) union members, all being members of TWU Local 264.  The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between Barnard College (the employer) and TWU Local 264 (the union) governs both the Housekeeping and Maintenance Divisions.

These union members are charged with the responsibility of the proper hygienic maintenance of the College’s administrative, faculty and residence hall buildings.  During the winter season they are also engaged in the removal of snow from the interior and exterior of college property.  They are also called upon to assist in the gardening and grounds work whenever needed.  Other task within their job description is assigned from time to time.

A Vice President who is a member of the union’s Local Executive Board represents this division.  The division also has one (1) Union Representative (Shop Steward) who is charged with representing the members as well as upholding the CBA.  The current Recording Secretary is also from this division.  The members of the division are assigned to two main shifts, the day shift, which begins about 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, and the night shift, which begins at 2:30 PM to 11:30 PM.  There are three (3) members who are assigned to the graveyard shift, which begins at 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM.

The Division is a part of the College’s Facilities Services Department and is headed by a Director and supported by his Assistant Director.  The latter is directly responsible for this division and is supported by three (3) full-time managers, all of who are constituents of the college’s management team.

 

Facilities Maintenance Division plumber

The Facilities Maintenance Division consist of approximately Twenty (20) union members all being members of TWU Local 264.  A Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the employer Barnard College and the union (TWU Local 264) governs both the Facilities Maintenance and Housekeeping Divisions.

The members of this division are further divided into four (4) Classifications due to their skills and area of responsibilities.  The Classifications as defined by the CBA are:
1. Head-Mechanics:         Two (2) members.
2. Trades-Mechanics:      HVAC (3), Locksmith (1), Mason (1) Carpenters (2), Painters (2) Plumbers (2) members.
3. Mechanic-Building:      Five (5) members.
4. Gardner-Grounds:       Two (2) members

These union members are charged with the responsibility of the maintenance of the College structures as well as the operation of boilers and cooling systems for all the buildings.  There are two (2) members of this division that are primarily responsible for the removal of snow from the exterior of the college during winter seasons.  These two members are also directly responsible for the maintenance of the interior grounds.

A Vice President who is a member of the union’s Local Executive Board represents this division and the current Executive Vice President is also a member of this division.  Most members of the division are assigned to various shifts between the hours of 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM, which is regarded as the day shift.  There are two members who are assigned to the night shift, which begins at 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM.  There is one member who is assigned to the graveyard shift, which begins at 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM.

The Division is a part of the College’s Facilities Services Department and is led by a Director who is supported by one full-time Operations Manager.  Both are constituents of the college’s management team.

 

Safety and Security Division cop

The safety and Security Division consist of approximately forty-four (44) union members of whom thirty-five (35) are Security Officers and members of TWU Local 264.  The other nine (9) are Dispatchers who are members of another union and belong to a separate Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).  The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between Barnard College (the employer) and TWU Local 264 (the union) governs the Security Officers.

These union members are charged with the responsibility of the safety and protection of the Barnard College community.  Their duty includes but not limited to responding to medical emergencies, fires and fire alarms, theft of property, harm to persons on or around the college community and giving access to various areas of the campus.

A Vice President who is a member of the union’s Local Executive Board represents this division.  The division also has one (1) Union Representative (Shop Steward) who is charged with representing the members as well as upholding the CBA.  The current President and Financial Secretary Treasurer are also members of this division.  The members of the division are assigned to three main shifts, the graveyard shift 11:45 PM to 7:45 AM, the day shift 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the night shift 4:00 PM to 12:00 MN.

The Division is a department of the College and is led by a Director and his Associate Director along with four (4) full-time Supervisors and about (5) five on-call supervisors, all of who are constituents of the college’s management team.  This Department operates on twenty-four (24) hours, seven days (7) per week basis and is continuously staffed accordingly.
