On Saturday October 28, 2006 during the removal of leaves and branches our union brother Eugene Simmons of the Facilities Housekeeping Division sustained injuries that caused him to seek medical treatment at St. Lukes Hospital.
Facts are as follows:
Brother Eugene along with other employees was involved in the removal of leaves and branches which fell due to severe wind conditions. While in the process of this, a gust of wind broke a large branch from the tree located at the front of the campus and buried Brother Eugene beneath it. Immediately other workers went to his assistance and removed the pile of branches from him. He was found unconscious but soon after regained conscious and was hen transported to St. Lukes hospital. Updates on his condition will be given as we receive it. Please keep our Brother in your prayers. We began negotiation earlier in October with the other Employer (Barnard College) for the Contracts in the Safety and Security, Facilities Maintenance and Housekeeping Divisions. Updates willl be given as the process continues.
